Traditionally today is the feast of St Peter ad Vincula. The New Liturgical Movement has an excellent and informative article about the origins of the feast, the story of the two chains of St Peter which miraculously became one, and the history of the liturgy that evolved for the celebration of the day.
As the article shows the feast was a regrettable casualty, along with others that seemingly emphasised the miraculous, of the changes made to the Calendar in 1960, when they were omitted.
The illustrated article can be seen at Liturgical Notes on the Feast of St Peter’s Chains
