Once I was a clever boy learning the arts of Oxford... is a quotation from the verses written by Bishop Richard Fleming (c.1385-1431) for his tomb in Lincoln Cathedral. Fleming, the founder of Lincoln College in Oxford, is the subject of my research for a D. Phil., and, like me, a son of the West Riding. I have remarked in the past that I have a deeply meaningful on-going relationship with a dead fifteenth century bishop... it was Fleming who, in effect, enabled me to come to Oxford and to learn its arts, and for that I am immensely grateful.

Lux in Arcana

Lux in arcana - The Vatican Secret Archives reveals itself is an exhibition of 100 original documents, preserved over many centuries in the Papal Archives and is on display, outside the Vatican for the first time, at the Capitoline Museums in Rome, from the beginning of March until September 2012.

In association with the exhibition there is a website which can be viewed at Lux in arcana. Follow the links to the main subject divisions and then click on individual images or topics. There is an informative set of notes to the items on display and the whole site gives an idea of the riches contained in the Vatican archives.
