Today is the feast of St Giles.

As someone who was baptised and worshipped in a church dedicated to him until my early forties he is a saint who figures in my mind and prayers.
A very popular saint in the middle ages many historic churches are dedicated to him across Europe, often representing ecclesial or cultural links along pilgrimage or trade routes.
Wikipedia sets out his legend and something of its historical context at Saint Giles
Jacapo de Voragine’s account of St Giles and his miracles from the thirteenth century Golden Legend as printed by William Caxton in the late fifteenth century can be read at Golden Legend: Life of Saint Giles. This has a number of images of the saint added to the text.
A modern devotional piece about St Giles and which includes various prayers seeking his aid can be found at St. Giles, Hermit and Abbot
There is an illustrated account of his life at Saint of the Day – 1 September – St Giles
Another life of the saint can be found on two separate websites but with different illustrations to each which is, despite its occasionally intrusive and tiresome attempts at humour, a useful introduction and can be viewed at St. Giles • V&A Blog and at Saint Giles, Hermit and Vegetarian
