This week is the centenary of the Easter Crisis in Hungary in 1921. This was the first of two attempts that year by King Charles IV to regain his Hungarian throne. The King - Emperor Charles I of Austria, and since 2004, Bl. Charles - arrived on March 26th in Hungary from his exile in Switzerland. It was Easter weekend and his appearance in the country a surprise to the authorities. The events of the following week which ended with his departure back to Switzerland in April 5th and of his second attempt in the autumn are recounted in Charles IV of Hungary's attempts to retake the throne

Today is the 99th anniversary of the death of the Emperor-King at the age of 34 from pneumonia in his new place of exile on Madeira. In this centenary year the Emperor Charles League of Prayer has various devotional and commemorative items available vi their website. This booklet seems the most appropriate to publicise today. Written by Prof. Dr Hans Karl Zessner-Spitzenberg, it chronicles the final days and hours of the Emperor, an intimate view of his heroic and saintly life.
