The Oxford Benediction Oblates marked St Benedict's feast day today with a Mass in the Extraordinary Form celebrated by Fr Jerome Bertram C.O. at the Oxford Oratory this evening.
As we were a Benedictine group we availed ourselves of the opportunity on this occasion to include the use of the traditional Sequence for the Feast of St Benedict provided for the Order. This clearly enhanced the sense of our identity as a group in the context of a beautiful and reflective Mass.
Afterwards we continued the celebrations with dinner together at a nearby Italian restaurant, reflecting upon, and indeed availing ourselves of, St Benedict's allowance of wine for his monks.
